Quickie: Phantom of the Opera

Drew the Phantom of the Opera for Month of Love on Saturday.

I have to say, these daily drawings are a lot like exercise. Y'know building a routine and all. I'm getting to know my hands and abilities better. You could say I am learning more things about my ability all at a faster rate. Technically, I draw every day, but I don't finish something every day. Drawing challenges like Month of Love or the 30-Day Drawing Challenge is probably one of the best ways to learn.

Inspiration

I drew these two people, Daniel Fishel and Christine Goodman, as my inspiration for the 30-Day Drawing Challenge I'm doing on tumblr. It's very true that these two are heroes. I have my own reasons why I chose two people, but I think it's beside the point. It's important to have heroes, role models, cheeseburgers, among other things.

Tales of Caution: Portraits

What did I tell you? One hour.

This illustration is of... oh I'm sure you know by now if you've been following this blog for a while and for some reason come back for my return.

I was thinking of doing a series of these portraits, highlighting several characters from the Tales of Caution project. It's one of many things I have planned, but I think I want to focus on making the actual comic, too.

Back in Your Head

Here's who is probably my best friend for millenia to come, Stephanie Herrera, who, by the way, just started a blog! Hooray for Steph!

You can't lie and say you don't have trouble drawing women. Pretty ones, at that. I was considering using her as a model for one of the characters who gets intimate with Caution, but then I thought it was really, really weird, considering Caution is based from my younger brother, Manuel Espiritu. The hunt continues for that character opposite Caution.

Anyway, this image is a breakdown of how I continue to struggle with Stephanie's drawn version. At least, MY drawn version. I'm not necessarily asking for help, but it is welcome.

I just wanted to post this because, I think Steph's a great artist.

And I like Stephanie Herrera.

Caution, Pin-up (ver. 1)

I can't stop plugging Instigatorzine 6. It really is a beautiful issue.

This pin-up is also good, but I'm never satisfied with anything I finish. Luckily, I have more interest in this subject matter than I do in others. So, I'll be revisiting this specific subject, probably with more of the figure involved (making it a fully-realized pin-up).

Apparently, you draw whatever this one person tells you to. Whatever. I just need something else to release through.
